GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Breach of peace, Sept. 7, E. 12th Street, GPD
No charges were pursued after a 23-year-old woman threw an object at another woman on E. 12th Street following a verbal altercation during a property exchange around 7:31 a.m., Gillette Police Sgt. Jay Johnson said.
Theft, Sept. 7, E. Lakeway Road, GPD
Menards management reportedly contacted the police after seeing a 23-year-old woman attempt to steal a security camera by concealing it in her purse around 11:11 a.m., Johnson said. When approached by management, the woman reportedly admitted to the attempt. She was cited for theft and ultimately was arrested for violating the terms of her probation.
DWUI, Sept. 7, S. Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers arrested a 35-year-old man for impaired driving after he was found sleeping in the front seat of a running vehicle on S. Douglas Highway around 4:21 p.m., Johnson said. During a search of his vehicle, officers reportedly recovered a bag of marijuana and a pill bottle with benzodiazepine inside. The man was also cited for possession of a controlled substance.
A 27-year-old woman was arrested for domestic battery after she allegedly attacked a 23-year-old woman at a Gillette residence around 4:41 p.m., according to Johnson. She reportedly scratched and hit the younger woman, and admitted to it when questioned by police, Johnson said.
Theft, Sept. 7, W. Lakeway Road, GPD
Officers took a report from a 13-year-old boy who reported his green Diamondback BMX bicycle was stolen from the 5000 block of W. Lakeway Road, Johnson said. The bike was valued at $300, and the investigation is ongoing.
Theft, Sept. 7, E. Lakeway Road, GPD
Staff at Menards called the police at 7:55 p.m. last night to report a 39-year-old man had taken two pairs of red-handled pliers, valued at $86.46, without paying for them, Johnson said. The man was identified by his license plate and his social media profile. He will be cited for the theft and trespassed from the business.
Officers cited a 59-year-old man for failing to maintain a single lane of travel after he attempted a left turn in a 1997 Kenworth and caused his trailer to collide with a 2021 Ford F-150 around 9:37 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 59 and Boxelder Road, Johnson said. The older man left the scene and was followed by Ford’s driver, a 21-year-old man. The 59-year-old man told officers that he was not aware that he had been involved in a crash.
Intoxication, Sept. 7, S. Douglas Highway, GPD
A 26-year-old man was arrested for intoxication after he called the police to report seeing his cousin “murder someone” behind the Ramada Inn around 11:52 p.m., Johnson said. The male appeared to be highly intoxicated, and no one was found to be injured in the area.
